25 Random Things...
This started as a viral message on Facebook; you write 25 random things about
yourself, then send it to 25 friends, and they do the same - hopefully. Well, what I
wrote seemed popular enough that I'd preserve it for posterity. So here goes:
- 0. Being a mathematician and C++/C# programmer, I start from zero.
- 1. I'm definitely a morning person now. 7am is a lie-in for me.
- 2. I didn't learn to swim until I was 40.
- 3. I still can't dance.
- 4. I could easily live without TV but not Radio 4.
- 5. When I was younger I idolised Jacqueline du Pre and collected just about every
recording she made. I still think hers is the most intensely passionate music ever.
- 6. I still have a vinyl record player (see 5).
- 7. I love wearing cerise and emerald green, but not at the same time.
- 8. Friday night is our night off together for a film, a bottle of wine and some
snacks.
- 9. I don't like having to choose favourites.
- 10. I think well-cooked English food is grossly underrated.
- 11. My oldest companion is Wilbur the penguin. At 41 years old (at least) his
beak is going a little runkled, but he looks really quite stately in his new ribbon.
Wilbur
- 12. I am dreadful at getting rid of stuff.
- 13. I hate the smell of egg and I don't know why.
- 14. I'm still an academic at heart.
- 15. Despite being a councillor, I am still extremely nervious of public speaking.
But I'm working on it.
- 16. I love home-made jam. I'm very glad that we live surrounded by elders and brambles.
- 17. My biggest passion at work is making complex information as accessible as I can.
- 18. Having two autistic children and one dyslexic has taught me more than I could
ever have thought possible, and to see their faces lighting up when they do what they enjoy is
my greatest pleasure.
- 19. I've traced 700 people in my family tree. Not one is notable.
- 20. If I had to give a piece of advice it would be this: Never underestimate what you are
capable of, never sell yourself short, follow your dreams, and throw yourself into life 100%.
- 21. My greatest regret in life is not following my own advice when I was in my twenties.
- 22. I hate driving. I'd much rather be on the train with a good book and a cup of tea.
- 23. The trait I most dislike in people is cynicism.
- 24. The glass is very definitely half full.
